I don't know if it's just me but life just seems super noisy at the moment.
I feel like I am juggling a million things, trying to keep three of my 4 businesses ticking over, managing a family, summer holidays, prepping for a new school year, awareness that Christmas is looming and I'm skint, keeping some semblance of relationships with my friends (who thankfully are very understanding and allow me to pick up where we left off even if it's been months) and worrying about my poorly Mum. That's before we even begin to think about all the knock on effects of being in a Global Pandemic for the last 18 months.
It's all just.... noisy, so I feel like me, Tracey, has got a little lost among it all.
I keep saying I'm tired but sleep doesn't seem to help with the weariness. Which is when it dawned on me this week that I am not putting enough in but still taking a whole lot out of ME.
Ironically, the one thing that helps me with this is crafting, whatever it may be. It's how Dixie Dot got started - it got me out of a very deep life-crash hole about 8 years ago but somewhere along the line I opened a business to be there for other people who wanted to use crafting as a lifeline and then wondered why I didn't make time to do it any more, because I know how much it helps.
The thing about crafting, making, painting, doing is that it switches your brain off for a couple of hours and THAT is actually the rest that we all need, not just sleeping. There are so many therapeutic and physical reasons to sit and make. To leave a screen behind and use your hands and do something different.
Mostly, when we craft we immerse ourselves in 'living in the present moment' and you're fully connected to the here and now. At that time the outside world doesn't exist. This produces a calm state, almost like a meditation - which is what leaves us feeling so refreshed and relaxed.
And the best bit? You don’t even have to be good at it to reap the overall benefits of crafting. Everyone can experience that, regardless of your ability or skills. Whether you are beginning something for the very first time or are an experienced crafters, there’s always more to learn, new ideas to try, new styles of working.
Crafting helps in so many different ways for absolutely everyone.
I've decided to - don't laugh - ring my localish pottery painting studio and book myself a table. Somewhere I can sit and 'be'. Switch the phone off for a couple of hours, while I get creative and turn down the noise.
Maybe you should do the same?
Dixie Dot is here for you. Use us. You really do deserve to put something back in to 'you' and turn your own noise down for a little while.
See you soon
