SEN sessions launched at Dixie Dot Crafts

At Dixie Dot Crafts we believe that creativity should be accessible to everyone — especially those who experience the world in wonderfully unique ways... which is why we’ve designed SEN pottery painting sessions — a space where they can create, explore, and express themselves freely, at their own pace.

Why Pottery Painting?

Pottery painting is a fun and sensory experience — the repetitiveness of the brush strokes and the the vibrant colours mean that it can

  • help with emotional regulation because the activity itself is a calm one

  • be a low-pressure way to develop or practice fine motor skills.

  • create an outlet to express yourself without the need for words.

But more than anything, it's creating something that is entirely unique— splashing colour onto a plate, mug, or figurine... whatever you choose.

Created with SEN in mind

These sessions are created to be:

  • Quiet, low-sensory environment – no loud music or bright lights.

  • Small group sizes to avoid overwhelming noise or crowds - we limit the amount of tables we fill.

  • Flexible start and finish - you can use as much or as little of your session as you wish.

  • Step-by-step instructions to aid in understanding.

  • A variety of tools such as larger easy-grip brushes or sponge dabbers for anyone needing a little extra support.

Parents or carers stay throughout the session – you know your child best, and we want this to feel like a safe and supported space for you both. We are also open to help, advice on guidance if there is anything extra we can be doing to make your visit easier.

Our team are always on hand with a warm smile, encouraging words, and a gentle approach. We’re here to listen, adapt, and ensure every child feels seen and welcome.

Each session includes:

  • A choice of pottery items to paint (the £10 booking fee comes off what you spend in the session)

  • A calm experience with plenty of space

  • Optional drinks and snacks

  • Proud smiles all around – because “I made that!” is a powerful feeling.

Book your table:

Our SEN-friendly sessions run during school holidays, and spaces are limited to keep the atmosphere calm and focused. You can book directly through our website.

We also welcome group bookings and school partnerships — just get in touch to chat about how we can work together. If you head to our website and search for SEN it'll bring up the calendar with all available sessions.

We can’t wait to welcome your young artist and help them discover the joy of painting their own little masterpiece.

Come as you are. Paint as you like. Leave with something truly special.
